Newcastle, NSW Australia June 28th, – Stewart Shines for Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda in Maryland

From the very first moto in Hangtown this summer, you could see thatMalcolm Stewart had something special. Crashes, bad starts and misfortune have hampered the end results, but it was obvious that the younger brother of one of the sport’s best was going to step out from the shadow of his big brother and do something great. It happened at Budds Creek this weekend.

Malcolm got collected in a first turn crash in the opening moto and looked to be encountering more of the same rotten luck he’s had before this season. However, Stewart put his head down and railed through the pack for the next half hour, and finished in ninth position. Breaking into the top ten after starting the race on the ground is impressive.

In moto two, he cleared the first corner in seventh position and set off for the front. He passed riders one-by-one until he was in fourth, right behind his brother James. Before the siblings could scrap for position, James went down and handed the spot to his brother. Malcolm cruised in for third in the moto and fourth overall on the day; a career best.

Cole Seely nabbed an excellent start in moto one of the 250 division and ran in the seventh position for much of the moto before dropping back to eleventh. Cole started well once again in moto two and spent almost the entire moto in fourth. Unfortunately, Cole slipped back and finished thirteenth for thirteenth overall on the day.

The Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda team continues to support and encourage Jessy Nelson and Christian Craig as they mend from injuries. No specific timeline has been set for their return, but when they are ready, they will line up again.

Be sure to make the trek to Southwick, Massachusetts this weekend where the last national at MX338 will take place. The famed circuit is shutting down, and the Troy Lee Designs crew hopes to leave the infamous sandbox with some trophies.
