Mostert dropped ground early in the final race before mounting a charge which lifted him from the back end of the top 10 all the way to the rostrum. His recovery was even more impressive given his pace faded in the opening race which saw him drop to 14th by the chequered flag. Championship leader Mark Winterbottom recorded a pair of sixth places after recovering from lower than expected qualifying results. Like Mostert, he was far stronger in the final race where he moved from 13th to sixth, which likely would have been fifth if not for questionable driving from an opponent.
Chaz Mostert - “I can’t believe how much better we made the car in the second race. I wasn’t quick off the line but our pace remained consistent throughout and we picked cars off rapidly and in the later stages we had a lot of pace. The top two cleared out but if we start further up tomorrow and use the pit stops to our advantage I think we can mix it at the front. We just need to use the tyres better tomorrow.”
