Raceline Pirelli Suzuki has recorded solid results after a tough round four of the MX Nationals at Murray Bridge on the weekend – Official Mx Nationals Press Release | Read >>

Both Ryan Marmont and Geran Stapleton went into the weekend with a point to prove after mixed results at Wonthaggi, and Murray Bridge looked as if it would be a test for all.

Qualifying proved to be a challenge, on a track that was forming up not as many would have expected from a traditionally sandy Murray Bridge. Marmont taking 11thposition and Stapleton taking 15th respectively.

Moto one saw Stapleton hot out of the gate and the fourth rider into the first turn, while Marmont also got the start he was looking for, putting him in third after one lap. As the race progressed, Marmont had some small issues that saw him take 10th while Stapleton was able to stay consistent throughout the moto and finished in fifth.

In moto two, Stapleton went down in the first corner, putting him back in last position and with some serious ground to make up in 30 minutes. Marmont was dealt another good start, which he was able to maintain for the duration of the race taking 10th. Stapleton was able to make some solid passes and finish the moto in 18th.

With the crash in the final moto, Stapleton’s overall result was affected slightly, ending the day in 12th place. Marmont’s two consisntent moto finishes handed him 10th overall at Murray Bridge.

Ryan Marmont MX2 – 10th Overall (11th, 10th):

“I was a little bit disappointed after the first race, I got cleaned up by another rider and it sort of put me off a bit for the rest of the day.

“My conditioning has let me down a little bit this year – just not enough time on the bike and the young guys seem to be able to keep that sprint speed up a lot longer these days.

“Our bikes are really on their game and it makes a difference when you’re out battling with the two strokes to have a reliable competitive machine underneath you.

“All in all though, I walked away unharmed and still managed to get some points on the board for the team with a top ten finish, so I’m happy with that.

Geran Stapleton MX2 – 12th Overall (5th, 18th):

“The first moto was ok, I was a bit disappointed that I had a little crash – I felt like I could have got a podium in that moto.

“The second moto just came apart. I got a really good start and then in the second corner I came together with another rider, which was my fault but I went down.

“I’m not back to riding properly during the week, and in the second moto I just felt really weak.

“My injuries are nearly healed, so hopefully I can build my strength back up and get back to where I was before.”
